A prime number is a lonely thing. It can only be divided by itself or by one; it never truly fits with another.  In “The Solitude of Prime Numbers,” Paolo Giordano a 29 year old particle physicist turned novelist creates one of the more charming stories of two damaged protagonists that I have read in some time.  His prose is original and stylish, captivating, not to mention moving and powerful.  Giordano’s novel won the Strega award and has sold in excess of a million copies in Italy.  Join me as I talk to this modest yet talented young author about his novel and his life.

wild-child

T.C. Boyle, or Tommy Boyle, who made up his middle name Corraghasan or however the hell you spell it, is wildly imaginative, funny, and a great story-teller. Wild Child, his latest collection of short stories is a perfect example.  However if you’ve never read, met or heard Tommy before do drop into the Frumkes show and hear the two of us laugh and carry on. By the way T.C. Boyle lives in a house in Montecito California in which Frank Lloyd Wright one of his heroes, once lived.

Richard Peck Interview

November 7th, 2009 by Lewis Frumkes

a-season-of-gifts

It may sound strange, but Richard Peck reminds me somehow of a James Ellroy for youngsters. This Newberry-Award-winner, and National Book-Award-finalist, with sixty or seventy books to his credit, mines the fields of horror, caper, mystery, the occult, and history for his legions of young-adult fans. He enthralls them and enraptures them because he is a natural story-teller. Peck’s mind works in unusual and original ways; nor is he a shrinking violet when asked for opinions. He voices them in the same commanding, and intimidating manner as Ellroy. He is bright, articulate, talented and fun. Do listen to Richard and I discuss Peck’s world.
